Ward 8 CAN Meeting – November 16, 7:00 pm

November 16, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Next Meeting - Wednesday, November 16, 2022 7:00 pm
Twin Forks Playground - 1475 Gary Avenue
In-person and via Zoom/Facebook Livestream

Meet your re-elected Councillor, hear about emergency preparedness and give us your feedback on what you'd like to see us work on in 2023!

Our last meeting of 2022! This is your opportunity to meet re-elected Councillor Al Sizer and to hear about what he wants to work on in the next term of Council. And as we're moving into the winter, we've invited City staff to inform us about emergency preparedness and how you can be ready for a weather or other emergency. Our community liaison GSPS officer will also give us an update on Ward 8 issues.

We're also gathering ideas for projects, activities and events for 2023. Come give us your ideas and how you can be part of continuing to make Ward 8 a great place to live!

We'll have snacks and there will be an opportunity to mingle after the meeting.

Meeting documents, including the agenda, minutes from the last meeting and other supporting documents are here:

Zoom/Facebook Livestream

Our CAN is working on making our meetings more accessible to all members of our community. Our election town hall last month was a combination of in-person and Facebook Livestream. In order to provide more options for people to participate all while making it easier for our volunteers to run hybrid meetings, we are trying a combination of in-person and Zoom meeting this month. If you want to be able to ask questions or provide input during our meeting, join our meeting via Zoom. A CAN volunteer will be monitoring the chat there as well as watching for anyone who raises their "hand" during the meeting.

The Zoom meeting will also be linked to our Ward 8 CAN Facebook page, where you can watch the meeting (no Facebook account required) and where a recording will be available after the meeting. Our volunteers will not be monitoring Facebook comments, so if you want to participate in any way, please join via Zoom. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Information about CAN meetings

CAN meetings are held the 3rd Wednesday of every month with the exception of December, July and August. As we transition post Covid-19, we are meeting both in person and via Zoom depending on the requirements of the meeting. Generally, all meetings are 90 minutes in length.

Depending on availability, our Greater Sudbury Policy Service liaison usually provides an update for Ward 8. Some of our meetings have an invited guest that presents a specific topic that has been identified as important to our community. Depending on the topic, the presentation/discussion typically last from 30 minutes to an hour. Our standing agenda items focus on planning and organizing upcoming meetings, events, projects, and activities.

Standing agenda items:

Approval of agenda and previous minutes
Financial status and budget update
311 calls status update
Event updates
Project updates
Subcommittee reports
