The Ward 8 CAN is bound by the City of Greater Sudbury's Community Action Network Standard Operating Procedures which provides guidance for how CANs operate. The Ward 8 CAN has also developed some Terms of Reference and a Code of Conduct to provide further guidance on CAN governance and community consultation.
Member Obligations and Responsibilities
To be a Member of the CAN, you must:
- Actively participate in the CAN.
- Adhere to all requirements identified in the City of Greater Sudbury's Community Action Network Standard Operating Procedure, as well policies, procedures and other requirements identified by the CAN to ensure orderly, respectful, safe, and inclusive conversations and actions.
- Register on a yearly basis in order to prove eligibility for membership.
- Must be in Good Standing as identified in the Terms of Reference.
Registered Member Benefits
- Receive agendas and minutes through regular communication channels, which may include email, social media, and other means of communication.
- Can submit a request to the CAN Chair for consideration to be added to a meeting agenda.
- Can vote for any motion at a meeting or any motion communicated prior to a meeting.
- Can submit votes in advance by communicating their vote to the CAN Chair by mail or email.
- Can nominate Members for Executive positions and vote at Executive elections.
- Approve yearly financial statements and annual reports submitted to the City of Greater Sudbury.
- Approve yearly CAN directions and activities, including the proposed budget, the CAN's strategic directions, and the year's planned activities and projects.
- Approve substantive changes to CAN directions or decisions that the Executive brings back to the Members, including major changes to the budget or to the planned activities and projects, and advocacy letters or submissions.

Statement of Confidentiality
Your personal information will not be shared with anyone other than the Ward 8 Community Action Network Executive Members who keep membership lists in order to conduct regular CAN business, including sending out communications to CAN Members.
